The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Lüneburg invites applications for inviting applications for the following full Professorship in Cultural Sociology (W2).
With a sociological focus, you investigate the socio-cultural constitution of society and/or the constitution of cultural practice and fields of cultural production. This entails theoretical and theoretical-integrative contributions to cultural and social theory. You have a broad knowledge of the fields of cultural sociology or sociology of culture and a sound background in historical and contemporary as well as internationally relevant sociological approaches and theories. Your research connects to important contexts of cultural research such as digital cultures and research on media cultures, science and technology studies, cultural studies and cultural analysis, history of science and technology, organization studies, mobility, migration and postcolonial studies, gender and queer studies, visual studies or aesthetic theoretical traditions. In addition, you can demonstrate methodological expertise, particularly in the field of qualitative methods (e.g. ethnographic methods or text, image and discourse analysis), as well as an interest in mixed methods and newer digital methods.
In teaching you are able to significantly contribute to social science perspectives on cultural research, in close cooperation with the other sociological professorships and junior professorships at the Institute of Sociology and Cultural Organization. Based on your capacity for interdisciplinary research, your work is closed related to questions and problems of cultural theory while strengthening approaches of cultural sociology and/?or sociology of culture. Your research offers opportunities for the joint development of externally funded projects, preferably in conjunction with impulses for the internationalization of research and corresponding research networks. You share the idea of the university as a Bildungsgemeinschaft (community of education) and actively pursue the possibilities of research cooperation within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and its research foci on digital cultures, cultures of critique and cultural organization, and/?or with other faculties of the university. Ideally, you can demonstrate your experience in working within culture-theoretical, interdisciplinary research contexts.
It is expected that you are involved in, and significantly contribute to, national and international debates in your fields of research. You are able to demonstrate this through high-quality publications in relevant research journals and with academically relevant publishers. You have relevant teaching experience and enjoy teaching in interdisciplinary contexts. In addition, you have acquired experience in initiating externally funded projects and in academic self-administration. You are able and willing to play an active role in interdisciplinary research initiatives. To be engaged in communicating research findings to the general public is an obvious part of your scholarship.
In addition, you have gained international experience in research and teaching, and you engage in international research networks. You have a very good knowledge of the English language and are prepared to teach courses in English. If you have no German language skills, you are expected to be willing to acquire sufficient German language skills within a reasonable period of time.
The employment requirements are governed by § 25 of the Universities Act of Lower Saxony (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz, NHG) and include:

* a pedagogical-didactic aptitude as demonstrated through experience and the use of innovative teaching methods.
